We love to bring our whole family to the local farmer's market.  That's what we did this morning.  When the children were little I lead them to believe that the the only foods available were the most nutritious ones.  If they were hungry they would simply eat what we gave them.  The first foods were often sweet potatoes, asparagus, avocado, salmon, and brown rice.  They grew up loving these foods.  All of my kids eat their greens, a favorite food is Daddy's stir-fried kale with garlic.

We also enjoy raising some of our own food. Over the years we have enjoyed having goats for milk, hens and ducks for eggs, and lamb for meat.  We now live on Main Street in a small town, but there is room in our backyard for a small flock of ducks (chickens are illegal) and a couple dairy goats.  We also have a dozen fruit trees, and several berry bushes, grapevines, a veggie garden, and lots of herbs.  My two oldest girls Anna & Estera love doing all the gardening, and much of the cooking- all that at age 9 and 10.  Estera, my Aspie loves studying herbs, plants and herbal remedies, so gardening is a big part of the kid's education.

The foods we choose and the foods we avoid have an impact on our children's health, mind power and behavior.  When the children are eating fresh whole foods and staying away from junk food they are so much more calm, focused and pleasant.  But when they are given candy, soda, and fast-food it only takes 10 minutes impact their behavior in a negative way. Some grandparents love to give them sugar, and then they wonder why the kids go wild!

Parents have the responsibility of helping their children to make good choices. my goal is to help my children build strong minds, healthy bodies, walk by faith, and learn a gracious way of life.  What is your goal for your family?  How are you doing?  Are you being a good example?  Are you willing to say "no" to somethings and say "yes" to the best?  Are you living what you believe in front of your children?  None of us are perfect, but let's all try to do the best we can in the areas that matter the most. Little eyes are watching.  Little feet are walking behind us.  Little hands are reaching out.

Thank you for your insight. When my children were little I would watch more closely what they ate and when. Now with a busy homeschooling schedule, sometimes the drive-thru our friend. However I have noticed a difference in my girls and in myself when we eat junk versus real good food. I am inspired by your last paragraph to examine my "whys" and not to just go through the motions.

Moms need to take care of themselves too! My daughter Charity suggested that Sarah and I try to put together a plan for teaching seminars or workshops on simple ways for women to be healthy & take care of themselves, including a really healthy diet that would be easy and satisfying as a way of life. I've thought about that from time to time. Well, after Dad and I did our 'dance of our life' in the "Minute of Glory" talent show (I think that at age 61 this is first time I participated in a talent show!) for the college students at English camp, I had a couple of girls come up and tell me how beautiful I am. (They expressed in the most thoughtful ways that they hope that they are look as good and are as active as I am when they are this old :D .lol)

anyway, in my morning time with the LORD I got the idea for a teaching on my beauty secrets. Here's the outline I wrote in my Journal:
1.Forgiveness - get it and give it (Ephesians 4:32)
2.Don't worry - trust God: Know Him, read the whole Bible Philippians 4
3.Love & be loved: be a blessings, build relationships, know that only God can truly fill your heart.
4.Enjoy life - be content and grateful
5.think about what is true, pure & lovely - watch your thought life.
6.Diet, exercise, posture & sleep.

I was so pleased to hear what you said about giving your children the right foods from the start. I am writing a book called "Little Nuggets for Busy Mums" which will be published in the USA. Not many people have such views on eating God's food. I was wondering if I could quote a couple of the paragraphs from the above in my book, as it so complements what I have written.

You look so healthy. I was also delighted to hear that you have faith in God. I just stumbled across your website and am going to give my son the sample pages of the dyslexia games for him to try. I homeschool my three children.

Woops, I meant the book will be published in the UK. Maybe in the USA eventually! I don't know.
